Members of the CCCA’s Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee have critically analyzed the statements and conclusions of a series of articles published online by the British Medical Journal (BMJ). The articles analyze how the Canadian federal and provincial governments’ responses to COVID-19 exposed inequities within the healthcare system. However, their conclusions were based on the assumption that the policies would have been successful in controlling the virus if they had been imposed more effectively. Rather than evaluating the impacts from the policies, the authors critique pre-existing gaps within the public healthcare system and insufficiencies in pandemic preparedness planning. The deficiencies of each article are presented questioning the pertinence, objectivity, and validity of the type of questions the authors suggest for future inquiries.
