
The COVID-19 crisis has created a large divide amongst communities, particularly within the scientific and medical ones. This is amplified by the failure of rigorous evaluation of the scientific literature. The scientific publication process is tainted with conflicts of interest and self-censorship, resulting in the potential spreading of misinformation. Dr Hardie and Ms Yamada explain that one resolution to this problem may be through coming together of all members of the scientific and medical communities to reassess the validity of the information on which to base policy and treatment plans.
